The unit and lesson plans that are contained on these pages were created for a student teaching block organized through the University of Manitoba. The curriculum is specific to high school mathematics and computer science in Manitoba. Grade 10 courses are denoted by 20S, grade 11 courses are denoted by 30S, and grade 12 courses are denoted by 40S. Manitoba is currently changing all of its math curriculum, with three different strands: Pre-Calculus, Applied Math, and Consumer Math. I hope that these lesson plans will be a useful resource to you.
Co-ordinate GeometryA unit in Applied Mathematics 20S that focuses on building skills using the co-ordinate grid. Topics include distance between two points, slope of a straight line, midpoint, and the equation of a straight line. Linear RelationsA unit in Applied Mathematics 20S that applies skills learned in co-ordinate geometry to real world problems. Topics include a review of the equation of a straight line, applications of straight lines, line of best fit (three different methods), and correlation coefficient. Circle GeometryA unit in Pre-Calculus Mathematics 30S that explores various circle properties and their proofs. Topics include inscribed & central angles, the measurement of arcs, tangent lines, inscribed polygons, and polygons. Personal FinanceA unit in Pre-Calculus Mathematics 30S that focuses on real world applications of mathematics. Topics include wages & salaries, unit price, exchange rates, property taxes, budgeting, and interest. Recursion & Advanced SortingA unit in Computer Science 40S that focuses on building advanced programming skills. Topics include recursive subprograms (all the classic examples), run-time stack, big-O notation, O(n log n) sorts, and O(n) sorts. All programming is done in Think Pascal. |
